The upcoming Arabian Travel Market event in Dubai will be postponed to June as a precautionary measure amid the ongoing coronavirus epidemic, its organisers announced on Monday.
In a statement, event organisers Reed Travel Exhibitions said that the event has been postponed to June 28 to July 1.
The event was originally scheduled to take place at the Dubai World Trade Centre between Sunday, April 19 and Wednesday, April 22.
“We at Arabian Travel Market want to express our concern for everyone impacted by coronavirus,” the statement said.
“Like all of you, we have carefully monitored the global health crisis related to Covid-19 coronavirus,” it added. “Our top priority is the health and safety of everyone involved in Arabian Travel market; employees, partners, customers and exhibitors.”
Additionally, the statement said that the decision was taken in alignment with UAE health authorities’ guidance regarding travel, as well as in consultation with event stakeholders, venue managers and supporting associations.
“Whilst the UAE is following the strictest medical and hygiene protocols in line with international standards, we have made this decision in the best interest of the industry to enable us to organise an event which provides effective participation and experience for all,” it said.
“Moving forward, we are continuing to liaise directly with all relevant United Arab Emirates and Dubai authorities on a regular basis, whilst monitoring and complying with the World Health Organisation guidance, and rest assured we will keep you informed of any new developments as we receive them,” the statement said.
The annual B2B event brings over 39,000 travel professionals, government officials and journalists together every year.
With the announcement, ATM joins a wide range of other regional events that have been postponed, altered or cancelled, including the Ultra Music Festival in Abu Dhabi, Art Dubai, the 2020 World Triathlon Series, and the Oman Petroleum & Energy Show.
